The Leeds Big Bookend returns this week, with events around the City Centre starting tomorrow evening.
I’m particularly excited for Emma Healey’s talk on her new book Elizabeth is Missing, which is one of the books in the Sharing Stories initiative run by LeedsBookClub and the Arts and Minds Network. It’s free, too, which is a bonus!
I’ll be also going to the various talks related to the First World War on Saturday, debating if having a ‘centenary’ as a national event is actually relevant today. I’ve spent so much time this year already planning displays and buying books about the subject it will be interesting to hear a debate on it.
Once again, this is a programme of events that celebrates the local, and has something for every age range. They’ve also got a Big Hitter in the form of Alan Bennett this year as their headliner, though at£20 a pop that one is sadly beyond my budget!
